Happy Halloween!

Did you know?

Halloween has Celtic origins. In pre-Christian times, many people believed that spirits from the underworld and ghosts of dead people could visit the world of the living on the night of October 31, the one night of the year when the vail between the world of the living and the world of the dead was at its thinnest, these spirits could harm the living or take them back to the underworld. To avoid this, people started dressing up as ghosts and spirits if they left their homes on October 31 in hopes that this would confuse the ghosts and spirits. Carving faces into pumpkins and placing them on doorsteps or window sills was also thought to scare away any unwanted spirits.

Halloween was also a time, when spirits might give messages to people. In some areas, it was traditional for unmarried girls to poor molten lead into water. The shape that the lead took when it hardened was seen as a clue to the professions of their future husbands. Halloween traditions were brought to Canada by Irish and Scottish immigrants. Halloween is now celebrated in a range of other countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland and Australia.

Hello! My name is April Baird and this is my blog.

I’m a Realtor for Calgary, Cochrane and Bragg Creek areas. I’m a born and raised Calgarian/Cochranite. I’m crazy inlove with my husband, my beautiful little girl and my community – really! I’m hoping to blog about more than just real estate (boring? In Calgary – no way!) I love real estate but I like other things too. Maybe I’ll post about things happening in Cochrane, there’s always seems to be something happen, I love Cochrane. I’ll post about things happening in Calgary and Bragg Creek too but I live in Cochrane so I will totally play favourites 😉
